Pilot Privacy Notice

Important: This is the operational privacy notice for the closed technical pilot. Recovery Connect will obtain Australian legal and privacy review before inviting general members or offering a health service.

Information we collect

For the pilot, Recovery Connect stores an account identifier supplied by the sign-in service, your chosen display name, confirmation that you are at least 18 and in Australia, consent versions, community messages, reports, blocks, account status and moderation records. We avoid asking for legal names, medical records, diagnoses or detailed treatment histories.

Why we collect it

We use the information to operate the invitation-only community, attribute messages to protected profiles, enforce the Community Guidelines, investigate safety reports, prevent misuse and improve the pilot. We do not sell member information or use recovery conversations for targeted advertising.

Health and sensitive information

Anything you choose to write about addiction, medication, treatment, disability, mental health or recovery may be sensitive health information. Only share what is necessary and avoid identifying yourself or another person. By completing pilot onboarding, you consent to Recovery Connect collecting and using your voluntary messages for the pilot purposes described here.

Who can see information

Approved pilot members can see active messages and your display name. Blocked members cannot see each other’s active messages. Authorised moderators can access messages, held content, reports and moderation records when required for safety and administration. Service providers may process information solely to host and secure the pilot.

Protection and retention

Recovery Connect uses access controls, encrypted web connections, restricted moderation tools and activity records. No online system can promise absolute security. Pilot information will be retained only for as long as necessary for the pilot, safety, legal and dispute-handling purposes. Retention periods will be finalised before wider launch.

Your choices

You can use a display name, limit what you share, block members, report concerns and request access, correction or deletion by emailing recoveryconnect.org@outlook.com. Deleting an account removes its pilot profile and messages, subject to any legal requirement to preserve particular safety or incident records.

Data incidents and complaints

Recovery Connect will contain, assess and respond to suspected data breaches and notify affected people and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner when legally required. Privacy complaints can be sent to the email above. If unresolved, you may contact the OAIC.
